Minnesota has introduced new lighting regulations that will ban the sale of certain fluorescent and mercury vapor lamps starting January 1, 2025, with more restrictions in 2026. This means businesses using older lighting technology need to start planning now to avoid disruptions.
What’s Changing?
January 1, 2025 – No more sales of screw-type CFLs, bayonet CFLs, mercury vapor lamps, or mercury vapor ballasts.
January 1, 2026 – The ban expands to include pin-type CFLs and linear fluorescent lamps.
While businesses can continue using existing fluorescent lamps, once they burn out, replacements will no longer be available.
